Senior Movers Who Take the Move at Your Pace

Leaving a home after thirty years is not the same job as moving an apartment across town. There are decades of belongings to sort through, a smaller place to plan around, family who want to help, and a person at the center of it all who deserves patience. Poseidon Moving’s senior moving service is built for exactly that, from the first conversation to the last box unpacked.

We move older adults into 55-plus and retirement communities, independent and assisted living residences, condos and apartments, and homes closer to family in another state. Sorting, packing, setup, storage, and the cleanout of the old home are all part of the same plan, run by the same team, so nobody has to coordinate four different companies.

Our Senior Moving Services, From Sorting to Setup

BEFORE THE MOVE

Downsizing and Sorting Help

We go room by room with you and tag every piece for one of four lists: the new home, family, storage, or donation. The lists stay with your coordinator, so nothing gets decided twice and nothing gets lost in the shuffle.

PACKING

Full Packing and Unpacking

Our packing service wraps the china, the photo albums, and the contents of every closet, and labels each box with the room it goes to in the new home. On arrival the crew unpacks, puts things away, and takes the empty boxes along.

THE NEW HOME

Furniture Placement and Setup

Furniture is placed from a floor plan drawn before move day, then the bed is made, the bathroom and kitchen are set up, and the lamps, television, and phone are plugged in, so the first night feels like home.

COMMUNITIES

Retirement and Assisted Living Move-Ins

Most communities set a move-in window, reserve an elevator, and ask for a certificate of insurance. Your coordinator handles that paperwork with the front office and times the truck so the crew is in and out inside the window.

IN BETWEEN

Storage While Decisions Settle

Pieces that don’t fit yet, or that a grandchild wants but can’t take until spring, go into storage wrapped and labeled, and come out when there is a place for them.

AFTERWARD

Donation and Disposal Runs

Bags of clothing and household goods you set aside go to a donation center, and whatever nobody wants is hauled away responsibly, so the old home is empty and ready for the next step.

The Senior Moves We Help Families With

Downsizing From the Family Home

The four-bedroom house with the full attic becomes a two-bedroom condo or a cottage in a 55-plus community, and forty years of belongings have to fit a floor plan half the size.

Moving Into Independent or Assisted Living

A furnished apartment in a residence has room for the pieces that matter most: the bed, a favorite chair, the dresser, the photos. The move is smaller, the timing is set by the residence, and the day has to go smoothly for someone who may find it tiring.

Moving Closer to Family

Often across state lines, from the house the kids grew up in to an apartment or an in-law suite near a son or daughter. The move is arranged with family at both ends, and the long-distance crew delivers inside an agreed window.

Settling a Parent’s Home

After a loss, the house has to be sorted, emptied, and often sold, by family who live elsewhere and have limited time in town. We work at the pace the family sets and from one set of instructions, so the house is handled in a few visits rather than a dozen.

What Every Senior Move Includes

A senior move gets the same protection as any Poseidon move: furniture wrapped before it moves, floors and doorways covered, large pieces taken apart and put back together, and basic liability coverage on everything we carry.

Open each item below for the details.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

We wrap each piece in moving blankets and stretch wrap before it leaves the room, so it stays protected for the whole trip. Items included:

Couches
Chairs
Mattresses
Bed frames
Dressers
Tables
Shelving units
Cabinets

Our team handles furniture assembly and disassembly as part of your move. We take large pieces apart for transport, bag the hardware, tag it to the piece it came from, and put everything back together when we arrive. Items include:

Bed frames
Tables
Armoires
China cabinets
Shelving units
Desks

Our trucks arrive stocked with the equipment needed to move your home safely, including dollies, straps, shrink wrap, furniture pads, and floor protection. We also provide five specialty moving boxes at no extra charge for your fragile, valuable, or awkwardly shaped items. Please order these before your move date so we can guarantee we have them on the truck.

TV Box
Picture/Mirror Box
Wardrobe Box
Lamp Box
Mattress Box

Loading: Our team loads your items carefully, keeps the heavy pieces low, and straps everything down so nothing shifts while we drive.

Unloading: When we arrive, we unwrap your items, place them where you want them, and make sure everything is set up before we leave.

Your rate covers all of the transportation costs for your move. This includes:

Fuel
Tolls
Travel Expenses

Every move includes basic valuation coverage at $0.60 per pound per item, which follows federal moving regulations. If you want more than the standard reimbursement, we can go over the higher valuation options with you before your move date.

How a Senior Move Works, Step by Step

  1. A Conversation, Not a Sales Call

We talk with you and, if you like, with your family, by phone or at the kitchen table. We ask about the new home, the timeline, and what matters most, and we leave with the measurements of the rooms you are moving into.

  2. A Plan for Every Room

Your coordinator turns those measurements into a floor plan and the sorting lists, and sets a schedule that spreads the work over as many days as it needs rather than squeezing it into one.

  3. Packing Day, at a Comfortable Pace

The crew photographs shelves and cabinets before packing so they can be recreated, packs one room at a time, and leaves a clear path and a working kitchen until the last day.

  4. Move Day and Settling In

The crew works from the floor plan and the labels, so nothing is asked twice, and the empty boxes and paper leave with the truck. Your coordinator calls the next day to check how everything landed.

Why Families Trust Poseidon With a Senior Move

Poseidon Moving has moved households for more than 20 years and is licensed and insured for local and interstate moves, and senior moves run on the same trucks, with the same crews, and under the same paperwork as every other job we do.

Adult children arrange most of these moves, often from another state. Your Move Coordinator is one phone number for the whole family, with updates at every step, so nobody has to chase the crew for news.

The quote is a written flat rate that covers the sorting days, the packing, the move, and the setup, so the price is known before the first box is packed and does not change on move day.

Senior Moving Questions, Answered

Yes, and most families do. Everything from the walkthrough to the final signature can be handled by phone, email, and a video call, and you can be on the line for the sorting decisions without being in the house. On move day a family member, a friend, or the community’s staff can be on site, or the crew works from the plan you approved and sends you an update when the rooms are done.
A one-bedroom apartment into a residence is often a single day. A full house that is being downsized usually takes two to four days: one or two for sorting and packing, one for the move, and a half day for setup, with a day of rest in between if that helps. The schedule is set with you, not for you.
Yes. A bed, a dresser, a favorite chair, and a dozen boxes is one of the most common senior moves we do, and it fits a small move crew and a short window inside the residence’s move-in hours. The rest of the home can be handled on a separate day.
Medications, glasses, hearing aids, important papers, jewelry, cash, and the phone charger go in a bag that stays with your parent or a family member, along with anything needed for the first night. The crew will point out anything else that should not ride in the truck, such as propane tanks or open bottles of cleaning solution.
The same way we handle any valuable piece: blanket-wrapped and padded for the truck, crated when the piece is fragile or oddly shaped, and carried by hand where a dolly would mark it. Our white-glove movers and custom crating are available on any senior move; tell your coordinator which pieces matter most.
Tell us, and we plan around it. Many families schedule a quiet room or a lunch out for the hours the house is in pieces, and the crew paces the day so there is never a rush at either end. A familiar face on site, whether family or a friend, makes the day easier, and the coordinator can be reached the whole time.

Every piece is carefully prepared before it’s moved. Our crews use heavy duty moving blankets, stretch wrap, floor protection, and proven loading techniques to help prevent scratches, dents, and shifting during transport.

If you have antiques, artwork, glass, marble, or other high-value items, we can recommend additional protection options such as custom crating or White Glove service.

Yes. For safety reasons, we cannot transport hazardous materials or certain restricted items. These are commonly referred to as “non-allowable items.”

This includes:

  • •Propane tanks, gasoline, kerosene, and lighter fluid
  • •Paint, aerosols, household cleaners, and other hazardous chemicals
  • •Fireworks, ammunition, matches, and charcoal
  • •Living things, including plants, fish, and pets

Not sure about a specific item? Just ask your Move Coordinator before moving day, and we’ll be happy to let you know if it can be transported.

Our crews can typically dismount and reinstall:

Some installations may require additional hardware, specialized tools, or extra time, so these services may incur an additional charge.

If you know you’ll need help with wall-mounted items, let your Move Coordinator know before moving day so we can arrive fully prepared.

Every move is unique, so the most accurate pricing starts with a personalized estimate.

  • ✓Local Moves – Pricing depends on the size of your move, the time required, travel time, and any additional services such as packing, storage, or specialty handling. Based on your move, we’ll recommend either hourly or flat-rate pricing.
