Top-Rated Delaware Moving Company

Delaware packs a lot into a small footprint: colonial history, a long stretch of Atlantic shoreline, and a culture all its own. The cobblestone streets of New Castle, the quiet beaches of Lewes and Rehoboth, the DuPont estates and gardens outside Wilmington, and the tax-free shopping that makes a trip across the state line feel like a win. Whether you’re buying your first home here, renting near the university, or settling in by the beach, you’ll find there’s more to the First State than meets the eye, and Delaware movers who know it well make settling in that much easier.

Across the state of Delaware, Poseidon Moving provides local residential and commercial moving services. We handle every step of the job: your belongings carefully packed into boxes, your furniture wrapped and moved, and everything placed right where you want it at the new place. Families, young professionals, and businesses all trust us, and for good reason: clear pricing, no surprise fees, and a crew that treats your things like their own. Get an instant quote and see how simple your Delaware move can be.

Our Delaware Moving Process in Four Steps

1

Request Your Quote

Send us both addresses, your target date, and a general idea of what’s moving, online or by phone.

2

Discuss Your Move

Your coordinator goes over your item list and the access at each home by phone, video, or an in-home visit for larger households.

3

Review Your Estimate

A written estimate follows that conversation. Ask questions, adjust what you need, and confirm your date.

4

Moving Day

The crew arrives in the agreed window, checks the plan with you, and gets to work, with your coordinator reachable all day.

What’s Included With Every Delaware Move

The list on the right is the standard every Poseidon Moving job begins with, and nothing on it is filler. Each item either protects your belongings while they’re in our hands or protects the home you’re leaving and the one you’re heading to. If your move calls for something beyond the standard, your coordinator will explain what it is and why before you decide, so the day itself holds no surprises.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

We wrap each piece in moving blankets and stretch wrap before it leaves the room, so it stays protected for the whole trip. Items included:

Couches
Chairs
Mattresses
Bed frames
Dressers
Tables
Shelving units
Cabinets

Our team handles furniture assembly and disassembly as part of your move. We take large pieces apart for transport, bag the hardware, tag it to the piece it came from, and put everything back together when we arrive. Items include:

Bed frames
Tables
Armoires
China cabinets
Shelving units
Desks

Our trucks arrive stocked with the equipment needed to move your home safely, including dollies, straps, shrink wrap, furniture pads, and floor protection. We also provide five specialty moving boxes at no extra charge for your fragile, valuable, or awkwardly shaped items. Please order these before your move date so we can guarantee we have them on the truck.

TV Box
Picture/Mirror Box
Wardrobe Box
Lamp Box
Mattress Box

Loading: Our team loads your items carefully, keeps the heavy pieces low, and straps everything down so nothing shifts while we drive.

Unloading: When we arrive, we unwrap your items, place them where you want them, and make sure everything is set up before we leave.

Your rate covers all of the transportation costs for your move. This includes:

Fuel
Tolls
Travel Expenses

Every move includes basic valuation coverage at $0.60 per pound per item, which follows federal moving regulations. If you want more than the standard reimbursement, we can go over the higher valuation options with you before your move date.

Delaware Moving Tips: Beach Traffic, City Parking, and Timing

Delaware is small enough that one good plan covers the whole state, but a few local details still decide how smooth your day goes.

  • Street Parking in Wilmington

Rowhouse blocks in neighborhoods like Trolley Square and the Highlands have tight curbs and residential permit zones, and a truck parked on a city street for the day may need a temporary permit from the city. Tell your coordinator the block and we’ll sort out what applies. Outside Wilmington, a driveway usually does the job.

  • Beach Season Traffic

From Memorial Day through Labor Day, the main highway south of Dover crawls on summer weekends, and Rehoboth, Dewey, and Bethany fill with weekly rentals. For a move to or from the beaches in summer, pick a weekday, ask for an early start, and expect the drive to take longer than the map says.

  • Coastal Weather

Nor’easters and the occasional tropical storm can flood low streets along the Delaware Bay and the Inland Bays. Before a fall or winter move near the water, check the forecast and the Delaware Emergency Management Agency’s guidance, and call us early if a storm is tracking in.

  • University of Delaware Move-In

Newark gets crowded in late August when UD students arrive, and parking near campus disappears. Dates differ by class year, so check the university’s housing calendar before booking a move near campus.

  • Historic Homes and Building Rules

New Castle, Lewes, and parts of Dover have homes built in the 1700s, with narrow staircases and doorways to match. Measure your biggest pieces, and in apartment buildings confirm elevator reservations and any certificate-of-insurance requirement with management. Those rules belong to the building, not the state, so each address deserves a quick check.

One happy bonus: Delaware has no sales tax, so stocking up on boxes, hardware, and that first grocery run for the new place costs a little less than it would next door.

Delaware Movers FAQ

Three things: how much you’re moving, the access at both addresses, and the distance between them. The estimate you confirm is the price you pay unless you add items or services later.
Hazardous items such as propane, gasoline, paint thinner, fireworks, and open chemicals stay behind. Cash, jewelry, medications, and important documents ride with you, along with plants and perishable food.
Mention them when you request your quote. We’ll plan the crew and equipment the job needs and include it in your estimate before moving day.
Yes. Tell your coordinator as soon as plans shift; with reasonable notice we reschedule at no charge, subject to availability. Changes inside the notice window may carry a fee, which we’ll explain before you confirm.

Yes. At Poseidon Moving, protecting your furniture is one of our highest priorities.

Every piece is carefully prepared before it’s moved. Our crews use heavy duty moving blankets, stretch wrap, floor protection, and proven loading techniques to help prevent scratches, dents, and shifting during transport.

If you have antiques, artwork, glass, marble, or other high-value items, we can recommend additional protection options such as custom crating or White Glove service.

Yes. For safety reasons, we cannot transport hazardous materials or certain restricted items. These are commonly referred to as “non-allowable items.”

This includes:

  • •Propane tanks, gasoline, kerosene, and lighter fluid
  • •Paint, aerosols, household cleaners, and other hazardous chemicals
  • •Fireworks, ammunition, matches, and charcoal
  • •Living things, including plants, fish, and pets

We recommend transporting these items yourself, using them before your move, or disposing of them safely according to local regulations.

Not sure about a specific item? Just ask your Move Coordinator before moving day, and we’ll be happy to let you know if it can be transported.

Yes. We can remove and reinstall many wall-mounted items as part of your move.

Our crews can typically dismount and reinstall:

  • ✓Mounted TVs
  • ✓Artwork and mirrors
  • ✓Shelving
  • ✓Window air conditioners

Some installations may require additional hardware, specialized tools, or extra time, so these services may incur an additional charge.

If you know you’ll need help with wall-mounted items, let your Move Coordinator know before moving day so we can arrive fully prepared.

Every move is unique, so the most accurate pricing starts with a personalized estimate.

  • ✓Local Moves – Pricing depends on the size of your move, the time required, travel time, and any additional services such as packing, storage, or specialty handling. Based on your move, we’ll recommend either hourly or flat-rate pricing.
  • ✓Long-Distance Moves – We provide binding estimates based on your inventory, the distance, logistics, and any additional services you request.

Yes. Every Poseidon Moving truck arrives fully stocked with the supplies and equipment your move may need.

  • ✓Heavy-duty moving pads, stretch wrap, and tape
  • ✓Dollies, hand trucks, straps, and floor protection
  • ✓Basic tools for disassembly and reassembly

If you’re not fully packed by moving day, let us know before your move date and we’ll make sure the crew brings the packing supplies you need – boxes, dish packs, wardrobe boxes, bubble wrap, mirror boxes, and TV boxes.
