What Is Flat-Rate Moving?

Flat-rate moving gives you a fixed price based on what you’re moving and the services you choose. Unlike a non-binding estimate, a binding estimate puts that agreed price in writing before moving day.

As experienced flat-rate movers, Poseidon Moving provides every long-distance move with a written binding estimate before moving day. After reviewing what you’re moving, both addresses, and the requested services, we put the total in writing. The signed price is based on the itemized list and services in your agreement. It doesn’t automatically increase because the shipment weighs more than expected. Fuel, tolls, and other disclosed transportation charges are included in that number.

The price changes only when additional items are added after the estimate is prepared or when another service is required to complete the move safely. Every adjustment is explained and documented in writing before the added work is performed.

This pricing applies to every interstate move we perform across the 48 contiguous states. Poseidon also provides written fixed-price quotes for local moves, packing, storage, and specialty services throughout the country. Local customers choose between flat-rate and hourly pricing, with either structure documented before service begins.

How Your Flat Rate Is Calculated

Your flat rate is built around the documented requirements of your move, not a generic price attached to the route.

Itemized list+total mileage+access conditions+requested services=your written flat-rate price

We review the items being transported to determine shipment size, truck capacity, labor, and necessary equipment. Total mileage includes the distance between locations and any scheduled stops along the way.

Access and service requirements are also considered before the estimate is finalized. Stairs, elevators, long carries, parking restrictions, bulky or fragile pieces, packing, storage, custom crating, and complex disassembly can all affect the crew, equipment, and time required to complete the move safely.

For full-service moves, your fixed price includes the labor, equipment, transportation, and protection identified in your agreement, including loading, transportation, unloading, furniture wrapping, disassembly and reassembly, floor protection, fuel, tolls, and basic valuation protection.

Packing-only and specialty services receive their own written fixed price covering the labor, materials, and services requested. When selected before signing, full or partial packing, short- or long-term storage, custom crating, and specialty handling become part of the same fixed price.

Send us your updated itemized list. We'll prepare a revised written estimate showing the additional items, any added services required to complete the move safely, and the updated price. You'll approve the revision before any additional work is performed.

Customer-packed boxes containing unusually dense materials, along with other unusually heavy items, should be identified during the walkthrough. This helps us assign sufficient truck capacity and remain within legal vehicle weight limits.

If added or inaccurately described items cause the truck to exceed legal weight limits, the load may need to be redistributed, part of the shipment removed, or additional truck capacity arranged. Any additional transportation service and price adjustment are fully documented in writing before the work proceeds.

Neither pricing structure is automatically more expensive. Hourly pricing ties the total to the time required, while flat-rate pricing locks the amount to an itemized list and defined services. For local moves, we'll explain both options so you can choose the one that best fits your move.

Will my furniture be protected?

Yes. At Poseidon Moving, protecting your furniture is one of our highest priorities.

Every piece is carefully prepared before it’s moved. Our crews use heavy duty moving blankets, stretch wrap, floor protection, and proven loading techniques to help prevent scratches, dents, and shifting during transport.

If you have antiques, artwork, glass, marble, or other high-value items, we can recommend additional protection options such as custom crating or White Glove service.

Are there items you can't move?

Yes. For safety reasons, we cannot transport hazardous materials or certain restricted items. These are commonly referred to as “non-allowable items.”

This includes:

•Propane tanks, gasoline, kerosene, and lighter fluid
•Paint, aerosols, household cleaners, and other hazardous chemicals
•Fireworks, ammunition, matches, and charcoal
•Living things, including plants, fish, and pets

We recommend transporting these items yourself, using them before your move, or disposing of them safely according to local regulations.

Not sure about a specific item? Just ask your Move Coordinator before moving day, and we’ll be happy to let you know if it can be transported.

Can you take down TVs and wall-mounted items?

Yes. We can remove and reinstall many wall-mounted items as part of your move.

Our crews can typically dismount and reinstall:

✓Window air conditioners

Some installations may require additional hardware, specialized tools, or extra time, so these services may incur an additional charge.

Every move is unique, so the most accurate pricing starts with a personalized estimate.
