Preparing for Your Los Angeles Move
Most of the prep for an LA move happens at the curb and in the building office, so start with both.
Before your scheduled date:
- Give neighbors on a shared driveway or courtyard a heads-up about move day.
- Schedule your LADWP stop and start dates for power and water.
- Get elevator and dock reservations confirmed at both buildings.
- Ask each building office for its certificate of insurance requirements.
- Measure sofas and headboards against courtyard gates and stair turns.
- Keep the driveway empty of cars so the crew has a clear path.
- Have every box packed, taped, and labeled by room unless we’re packing.
- Carry IDs, medication, keys, and valuables in your own car.
- Empty, unplug, and defrost the fridge the night before the crew arrives.
Los Angeles Moving Questions Answered
It depends on the block. Many LA neighborhoods are in preferential parking districts, where cars without a permit face posted limits, and busier streets add meters and rush-hour tow-away times. Some buildings offer a loading zone or driveway. Send us photos of the posted signs at both addresses and we’ll plan where the truck stands.
Not always. Hillside neighborhoods such as Mount Washington and the Hollywood Hills have steep driveways and narrow, winding streets where a full-size truck may not fit. In those spots a smaller shuttle truck carries belongings between the house and the main truck, and we build that into your quote.
The Los Angeles Fire Department declares Red Flag Days when strong winds and low humidity raise fire danger. Parking is then banned on posted streets in Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones, and vehicles left there can be towed. If your street is posted, we keep the truck off it and adjust the crew plan.
It can be. San Fernando Valley afternoons regularly run far hotter than the coast and can pass 100 degrees, so we start Valley moves early when possible. Pack candles, vinyl records, cosmetics, medication, and plants to ride in your car, where you control the temperature.
Most local LA moves book comfortably two to four weeks out. Weekends at the end and start of each month fill first, and summer is the busiest season, so book earlier for those dates. Larger homes and office moves benefit from extra lead time for building approvals.

Yes. For safety reasons, we cannot transport hazardous materials or certain restricted items. These are commonly referred to as “non-allowable items.”
