On hourly moves the building sets the pace: a fourth-floor walk-up with a long carry to the truck takes more crew time than a doorman building with a reserved freight elevator and a loading dock. Do I need a certificate of insurance to move in New York City?

Most buildings with a doorman or a managing agent require one before the crew is allowed in, and many smaller rentals do too. The building sends its requirements, usually naming the owner, the managing agent, and the coverage amounts, and we return a certificate of insurance that matches them. Give us both buildings’ contacts at booking and we handle the exchange.

Can you move me on a weekend?

We can, but your building may not allow it. Many managed buildings in the city limit moves to weekday hours and close the freight elevator on weekends and holidays. Check the house rules before you pick a date. Walk-ups and brownstones without a management office usually have no restriction, and weekends there book up first.

How do walk-up moves work?

The crew measures large pieces against the stairwell before carrying, removes legs and headboards where they have to, and pads railings and landings on the way. The carry takes longer than an elevator move, so hourly quotes for walk-ups allow extra time, and we size the crew to the number of flights.

When is the busiest time to move in the city?

Late spring through early fall, with the last and first days of each month booked first. Lease cycles and the return of students make the first week of September the hardest date to get, so book three to four weeks ahead for it. For a closer date, our last-minute movers may still have a crew open.

Will my furniture be protected?

Yes. At Poseidon Moving, protecting your furniture is one of our highest priorities.

Every piece is carefully prepared before it’s moved. Our crews use heavy duty moving blankets, stretch wrap, floor protection, and proven loading techniques to help prevent scratches, dents, and shifting during transport.

If you have antiques, artwork, glass, marble, or other high-value items, we can recommend additional protection options such as custom crating or White Glove service.

Are there items you can't move?

Yes. For safety reasons, we cannot transport hazardous materials or certain restricted items. These are commonly referred to as “non-allowable items.”

This includes:

•Propane tanks, gasoline, kerosene, and lighter fluid
•Paint, aerosols, household cleaners, and other hazardous chemicals
•Fireworks, ammunition, matches, and charcoal
•Living things, including plants, fish, and pets

We recommend transporting these items yourself, using them before your move, or disposing of them safely according to local regulations.

Can you take down TVs and wall-mounted items?

Yes. We can remove and reinstall many wall-mounted items as part of your move.
