Best Storage Options For Moving

Storage Tips For Your Move

When moving to a new home, people may find they don’t have enough space to bring all their belongings with them. This is why finding a storage facility may come necessary.

Luckily, there are facilities available for rent for those who find themselves in need of storage space for their needs. Yes, arranging for a storage facility might sound intimidating and just extra work on top of all the tasks involves in moving. However, getting one will surely come with many benefits.

But in order to make the most of their benefits, you have to choose the best type that suits your needs. Here are the different types of storage options for you to choose from.

Three Different Types of Self-Storage

When it comes to moving, finding the right storage option is crucial. Whether you need short-term storage during your move or a long-term solution for your belongings, there are various storage varieties available to meet your needs. Let’s explore the different types of storage facilities and services to help you make the perfect choice for your moving needs.

Basic Self-Storage

As the name suggests, this average, standard self-storage is not anything fancy. This type of unit is available in different sizes, with padlocked doors on every unit that opens to the outside. Of course, it has a security system to make sure that no one access to it unless you want them to.

Typically, this type of storage requires you to pay monthly, which price depends on the size of the unit. It would also require you a small security deposit once you move in. You use your own padlock, so you can make sure that you’re the only one who has access to the storage unit.

The only thing that is not good about this is like you’re storing your belongings in a simple garage. There is no temperature control, so they can get very hot in the summer and extremely hot in the winter. On top of that, most basic self-storage places usually have an onsite office, which means you can only access the unit when their office is open.

Climate-Controlled Self-Storage

If temperature control is important to you, then climate-control self-storage might be the best one for your needs. This is ideal if you have books, furniture, collectibles, and other stuff that you don’t want to expose to extreme temperature and moisture.

With climate-controlled self-storage, your unit is going to be in a huge building that’s heated during the cold seasons and cooled in the summertime. You can also assure that the doors are nicely sealed, so your items will be insulated and protected against moisture.

However, you have to keep in mind that even though climate-controlled self-storage is a great option for your stuff, it’s an expensive option. Aside from just paying for space, you’re also paying for the heater or cooler.

Container Storage

Okay, so this one is not really considered self-storage. However, this is still nice storage depending on your needs. You can simply find containers, such as plastic bins or even cardboard boxes the storage company gives you.

You then pack all your stuff and the storage company comes back to your house to pick them up. After that, the company will deliver the containers to your new home once you’re ready.

There is a downside to this, though. Even though this will be a great option for those who are moving across the country, you will not have access to your stuff until they drop them off at your new home.

Choosing the Right Storage Option for You

There are a lot of reasons why you need storage for your items. Whether you need to move into a smaller place or you need to stay somewhere else temporarily, you want to make sure that your stuff is safe and secure.

Fortunately, there are different options you can choose from. Know what you need and budget and you’ll see that picking the one for you is not that complicated.
