Moving Company Pricing: Hourly & Flat Rates

Poseidon Moving prices local moves two ways: by the hour, based on crew size and when you’re moving, or as a guaranteed flat rate. Peak dates like end-of-month weekends and summer cost more because demand is higher. Off-peak dates cost less. The tables on this page show every hourly rate we charge, with no hidden fees and no surprise add-ons.

Every rate includes a full crew, a truck, furniture wrapping, disassembly and reassembly, loading, transport, unloading, and basic liability coverage. What you see below is what you pay. Use our online quote tool to find out which tier applies to your date.

Local Moving Pricing

Most local moves can be booked one of two ways. Choose the option that fits your home and your comfort level, and your coordinator will confirm the price in writing before moving day.

Option 1: Hourly Moving Rates

Best for smaller moves, apartments, or flexible timelines. You pay for the crew’s time, billed in quarter-hour increments after a three-hour minimum on every local booking. The clock starts when the crew arrives at your origin address and stops when the last item is placed at your destination, and the drive between the two addresses is part of that time. Travel to your origin address and back from your destination to our truck’s parking is added as one flat travel time, confirmed in your quote, so there is no running meter before the crew reaches you or after they leave. Fuel and tolls are included in the rate.

Your rate tier depends on the time of year, our availability on your preferred date, holidays, and the complexity of the move. Share your moving date with us and we will confirm your tier before you book.

Need a bigger crew? Each additional mover is $50 per hour, and each additional truck is $50 per hour, at every tier.

Here is what a typical local move looks like at Standard tier rates. Every home is different, so treat these as averages rather than quotes; your coordinator confirms the crew and the price after reviewing your move.

Averages use Standard tier rates with one truck; Discounted dates run lower and Peak dates higher. A second truck, when a larger home needs one, adds $50 per hour.

Truck parking far from the door, long walks from the elevator, stairs, and oversized or heavy items may call for an extra mover, which we will tell you about before the day.

Option 2: Guaranteed Flat-Rate Moving

Best for larger homes, full-service packing, or anyone who wants absolute price certainty. Instead of watching the clock, we provide an all-inclusive, guaranteed flat rate based on your documented inventory and property access. You pay exactly what you are quoted, with zero hourly overages or hidden fees, regardless of traffic or how long the move takes.

Understanding Our Rate Tiers

Your rate depends on when you’re moving. Here’s how the tiers break down throughout the year.

Discounted

Midweek moves (Monday through Thursday) during the off-season months of November through March. The lowest demand window of the year, and the best rates we offer.

Standard

Weekday moves during spring and fall shoulder months: April, May, September, and October. Moderate demand, fair weather, and a good balance of availability and price.

Sub-Peak

Weekends during shoulder months, or early-week days during the summer season (June through August). Demand is picking up but hasn’t hit the ceiling yet.

Peak

Summer weekdays and most weekends from June through August. This is when the majority of people move, so crews and trucks are in high demand across the industry.

Hi-Peak

End-of-month weekends during June, July, and August. Lease turnovers cluster on the last weekend of each month, making these the busiest single days we see all year.

Premium-Peak

September 1st moves and major holiday-adjacent dates. In cities with large student populations, September 1st is the single highest-demand day of the year. Extremely limited availability.

What’s Included in Your Moving Rate

Truck and Transportation
A properly sized moving truck, fuel, tolls, and all travel expenses between your origin and destination. No mileage surcharges, no fuel add-ons.
Furniture Wrapping and Floor Protection
Moving blankets, stretch wrap, corner protectors, mattress covers, floor runners, and door jamb padding, all included. We protect both your belongings and the homes you’re moving in and out of.
Disassembly and Reassembly
Bed frames, tables, desks, shelving units, and any furniture that needs to come apart for transport gets disassembled at the origin and reassembled at the destination.
Loading, Unloading, and Placement
Strategic loading to prevent shifting, careful unloading, unwrapping, and placement of every item exactly where you direct, whether it’s a residential home or a commercial space. The crew doesn’t leave until you confirm everything is where it belongs.
Basic Liability Coverage
Every move includes $0.60 per pound per item in basic liability protection. This is standard on every booking at every tier and follows federal moving industry regulations. If your building requires a Certificate of Insurance, we issue that before move day at no extra charge.

Optional Moving Services & Additional Costs

The hourly rate covers the crew, truck, and standard handling. These optional services are available at additional cost if your move requires them:

Packing and Unpacking

Full or partial packing with professional-grade boxes, paper, tape, and bubble wrap. Priced based on home size and the number of rooms packed.

Storage

Short-term or long-term storage in secure, climate-appropriate facilities when your move-out and move-in dates don’t line up.

Specialty Items

Pianos, safes, pool tables, and other oversized or extremely heavy items may carry an additional handling charge depending on weight, dimensions, and access conditions.

Interstate & Long-Distance Moving Pricing

Moving out of state? Hourly rates do not apply to cross-country or interstate relocations. For all long-distance moves, we provide all-inclusive, guaranteed flat-rate pricing.

Your long-distance flat rate is calculated based on your total inventory, mileage, and any specialized services you request, meaning zero unexpected weight charges or hidden fees on moving day.

Frequently Asked Pricing Questions

How do I know which tier my move falls into?

The tier is determined by your move date. When you request a quote, we’ll tell you exactly which tier applies. Generally, midweek and off-season dates are cheapest, and end-of-month summer weekends are the most expensive.

Is there a minimum number of hours?

Yes. There is a three-hour minimum on all local moves. Most studio and one-bedroom moves fall within that window. Larger homes typically take 3 to 6 hours depending on how much you are moving, floor level, and access conditions.

Should I choose hourly or flat rate?

Hourly suits smaller moves with easy access and predictable timing. Flat rate suits larger homes, long carries, full packing, or anyone who wants the total locked in before moving day. Neither is automatically cheaper, and your coordinator can price both so you can compare.

Do rates apply to long distance moves too?

No. These hourly rates apply to local moves only. Long distance moves are priced as a flat rate based on your inventory, distance, and services. If you add packing and unpacking to a long-distance move, you can choose to have it priced as a flat rate or at our hourly rate. Request a quote for an exact number.

Can I save money by moving on a different day?

Absolutely. Moving midweek instead of on a weekend, or choosing a mid-month date instead of the last day of the month, can drop your rate by one or two tiers. If your schedule is flexible, ask us which dates near your preferred window have the lowest tier.

What does the hourly rate actually cover?

The rate covers the crew, the truck, fuel, tolls, all wrapping and protection materials, furniture disassembly and reassembly, loading, transport, unloading, placement, and basic liability coverage. The only things billed separately are optional add-ons like packing or storage.

How do I know how many movers I need?

For a studio or one-bedroom, two movers are standard. Two- and three-bedroom homes usually need three movers. Large homes with heavy furniture, multiple floors, or long carry distances may need four. We recommend the right crew size when you request your estimate so you’re not overpaying or understaffed.

Will my furniture be protected?

Yes. At Poseidon Moving, protecting your furniture is one of our highest priorities.

Every piece is carefully prepared before it’s moved. Our crews use heavy duty moving blankets, stretch wrap, floor protection, and proven loading techniques to help prevent scratches, dents, and shifting during transport.

If you have antiques, artwork, glass, marble, or other high-value items, we can recommend additional protection options such as custom crating or White Glove service.

Are there items you can't move?

Yes. For safety reasons, we cannot transport hazardous materials or certain restricted items. These are commonly referred to as “non-allowable items.”

This includes:

•Propane tanks, gasoline, kerosene, and lighter fluid
•Paint, aerosols, household cleaners, and other hazardous chemicals
•Fireworks, ammunition, matches, and charcoal
•Living things, including plants, fish, and pets

We recommend transporting these items yourself, using them before your move, or disposing of them safely according to local regulations.

Not sure about a specific item? Just ask your Move Coordinator before moving day, and we’ll be happy to let you know if it can be transported.

Can you take down TVs and wall-mounted items?

Yes. We can remove and reinstall many wall-mounted items as part of your move.

Our crews can typically dismount and reinstall:

✓Shelving
✓Window air conditioners

Some installations may require additional hardware, specialized tools, or extra time, so these services may incur an additional charge.

If you know you’ll need help with wall-mounted items, let your Move Coordinator know before moving day so we can arrive fully prepared.

How much will my move cost?

Every move is unique, so the most accurate pricing starts with a personalized estimate.

✓Local Moves – Pricing depends on the size of your move, the time required, travel time, and any additional services such as packing, storage, or specialty handling. Based on your move, we’ll recommend either hourly or flat-rate pricing.
✓Long-Distance Moves – We provide binding estimates based on your inventory, the distance, logistics, and any additional services you request.

Do you provide moving supplies and equipment?

Yes. Every Poseidon Moving truck arrives fully stocked with the supplies and equipment your move may need.

✓Heavy-duty moving pads, stretch wrap, and tape
✓Dollies, hand trucks, straps, and floor protection
✓Basic tools for disassembly and reassembly

If you’re not fully packed by moving day, let us know before your move date and we’ll make sure the crew brings the packing supplies you need – boxes, dish packs, wardrobe boxes, bubble wrap, mirror boxes, and TV boxes.
