These boxes are constructed with thicker cardboard that can absorb the shock if the box is dropped or bumped around during transport. While these moving boxes cost a bit more than your standard cardboard box, the extra protection that they provide is essential when it comes to packing dishes.

It is also highly recommended that you use strong, wide packing tape when taping up your moving boxes. This all but eliminates the chances that your dishes fall through the box and that the box is taped up securely. A tape gun can make this job a lot easier and you’ll be done before you even know it!

Now, onto the real question at hand: what is the best way to pack dishes for moving? Put simply, it is vital that you know how to pack dishes with care. This starts with choosing the right packaging materials but the job is far from done there. Start by gathering a soft protective layer to pack alongside your dishes. This could be newsprint or towels. Wrap each piece of dish-ware with this material to ensure a bit of added protection during transport.

Knowing how to pack dishes is largely dependent upon the size, shape, and type of dishes that you’re packing away. Let’s explore each of the most common form of dish and look at a few helpful tips that will keep your dishes safe during your big move.

You should always remember to pack glassware starting with the heaviest and most sturdy piece. Top off your moving box with your lightest, more fragile items. Line your moving box with newsprint on both the bottom and top of the box with each piece of glassware wrapped in its own individual wrapping.
