Moving Rates That Make Sense

Poseidon Moving charges by the hour based on two factors: crew size and when you’re moving. Peak dates like end-of-month weekends and summer cost more because demand is higher. Off-peak dates cost less. The table below shows every rate we charge — no hidden fees, no surprise add-ons.

Every rate includes a full crew, a truck, furniture wrapping, disassembly and reassembly, loading, transport, unloading, and basic liability coverage. What you see below is what you pay. Use our online quote tool to find out which tier applies to your date.

WHEN EACH TIER APPLIES

Understanding Our Rate Tiers

Your rate depends on when you’re moving. Here’s how the tiers break down throughout the year.

Discounted

Midweek moves (Monday through Thursday) during the off-season months of November through March. The lowest demand window of the year, and the best rates we offer.

Standard

Weekday moves during spring and fall shoulder months — April, May, September, and October. Moderate demand, fair weather, and a good balance of availability and price.

Sub-Peak

Weekends during shoulder months, or early-week days during the summer season (June through August). Demand is picking up but hasn’t hit the ceiling yet.

Peak

Summer weekdays and most weekends from June through August. This is when the majority of people move, so crews and trucks are in high demand across the industry.

Hi-Peak

End-of-month weekends during June, July, and August. Lease turnovers cluster on the last weekend of each month, making these the busiest single days we see all year.

Ultra-Peak

September 1st moves and major holiday-adjacent dates. In cities with large student populations, September 1st is the single highest-demand day of the year. Extremely limited availability.

What’s Covered in Your Rate

Truck and Transportation

A properly sized moving truck, fuel, tolls, and all travel expenses between your origin and destination. No mileage surcharges, no fuel add-ons.

Furniture Wrapping and Floor Protection

Moving blankets, stretch wrap, corner protectors, mattress covers, floor runners, and door jamb padding — all included. We protect both your belongings and the homes you’re moving in and out of.

Disassembly and Reassembly

Bed frames, tables, desks, shelving units, and any furniture that needs to come apart for transport gets disassembled at the origin and reassembled at the destination.

Loading, Unloading, and Placement

Strategic loading to prevent shifting, careful unloading, unwrapping, and placement of every item exactly where you direct — whether it’s a residential home or a commercial space. The crew doesn’t leave until you confirm everything is where it belongs.

Basic Liability Coverage

Every move includes $0.60 per pound per item in basic liability protection. This is standard on every booking at every tier and follows federal moving industry regulations. If your building requires a Certificate of Insurance, we issue that before move day at no extra charge.

OPTIONAL ADD-ONS

Services Billed Separately

The hourly rate covers the crew, truck, and standard handling. These optional services are available at additional cost if your move requires them:

Packing and Unpacking

Full or partial packing with professional-grade boxes, paper, tape, and bubble wrap. Priced based on home size and the number of rooms packed.

Storage

Short-term or long-term storage in secure, climate-appropriate facilities when your move-out and move-in dates don’t line up.

Specialty Items

Pianos, safes, pool tables, and other oversized or extremely heavy items may carry an additional handling charge depending on weight, dimensions, and access conditions.

Pricing Questions Answered

The tier is determined by your move date. When you request a quote, we’ll tell you exactly which tier applies. Generally, midweek and off-season dates are cheapest, and end-of-month summer weekends are the most expensive.

Yes. There is a three-hour minimum on all local moves. Most studio and one-bedroom moves fall within that window. Larger homes typically take 3 to 6 hours depending on volume, floor level, and access conditions.

No. These hourly rates apply to local moves only. Long distance moves are priced as a flat rate based on weight, distance, and services. Request a quote for an exact number.

Absolutely. Moving midweek instead of on a weekend, or choosing a mid-month date instead of the last day of the month, can drop your rate by one or two tiers. If your schedule is flexible, ask us which dates near your preferred window have the lowest tier.

The rate covers the crew, the truck, fuel, tolls, all wrapping and protection materials, furniture disassembly and reassembly, loading, transport, unloading, placement, and basic liability coverage. The only things billed separately are optional add-ons like packing or storage.

For a studio or one-bedroom, two movers are standard. Two- and three-bedroom homes usually need three movers. Large homes with heavy furniture, multiple floors, or long carry distances may need four. We recommend the right crew size when you request your estimate so you’re not overpaying or understaffed.

Any items that can't be moved or illegal to move?

“Non-allowable” is an industry term for hazardous items professional movers will not transport and are those generally considered explosive, flammable or corrosive.

Please do not ask our team to move living organisms such as plants, fish, pets…

Can jewelry and other valuables be moved?

Yes, but we are not liable for those items unless they’re properly reported item by item.

Let us know if you have items of extraordinary value and we’ll walk you through valuation options.

Can you take down/hang my art work, TV, AC...

During move-out we can generally remove artwork, mounted TVs, and window ACs.

Additional cost applies on dismounting and mounting TV.

Please reach out to your account manager to make sure our team has the right tools during your move.

Do you have moving supplies/equipment on the truck?

Yes, our trucks are fully stocked with moving supplies and proper equipment you may need for your move.

If you are not fully packed/prepared for your move please let us know prior to your moving date and we’ll make sure our team has the necessary packing supplies to assist you.
